Aspire Rover Plus

The Aspire Rover Plus is a box mod kit built around a 2600mAh built-in battery, a 0.96-inch colour TFT screen and a genuine five-mode output system. It is designed for vapers who want more control than a basic pod device offers, but do not want the complexity of a full external battery mod.

The included AF tank is a 2ml top-fill tank compatible with the AF series mesh coils, covering MTL, RDTL and DTL vaping styles depending on which coil you fit. The body is zinc alloy with decorative side panels, measuring 114.2 × 39.4 × 25.3mm and weighing 183g – solid enough to feel quality in the hand without being uncomfortable to carry.

Battery and Charging

The Rover Plus runs on a 2600mAh built-in battery, which is a larger capacity than most pod kits in this price range. At moderate wattage settings using the 0.6Ω coil, you can reasonably expect a full day of use between charges. With the 0.4Ω coil at higher wattages, battery life will be shorter – most users report getting through a day comfortably but not much more. Charging is via USB-C at 2A, and a full charge from flat takes around 78 minutes. The device charges from the bottom port, so you can continue to use it while it charges if needed, though doing so regularly is not recommended for long-term battery health.

Screen and Modes

The 0.96-inch TFT colour screen is clear and readable, with 33 adjustable brightness levels so it works in direct sunlight or low light. It shows your current wattage or mode, coil resistance, output voltage and battery level in real time. The five output modes give you a meaningful range of control depending on how you vape.

WATT mode is the starting point for most vapers – you set a wattage and the device delivers it consistently. VOLTAGE mode lets you set the output voltage directly rather than wattage, which some experienced vapers prefer. BYPASS mode feeds direct battery voltage to the coil without regulation, giving the warmest and most variable output as the battery drains.

CPS (Custom Power Setting) mode lets you set a curve of wattage outputs that the device cycles through during a single draw – useful for getting a warm start and a cooler finish, or vice versa.

TC (Temperature Control) mode supports nickel (NI), titanium (TI) and stainless steel (SS) coil materials, though the AF series coils use Kanthal and are not TC-compatible. TC mode is available if you pair the device with a compatible third-party TC coil and tank.

AF Tank and Airflow

The AF tank that ships with the Rover Plus is a 2ml top-fill tank built around the AF series mesh coils. The top-fill mechanism is a push-and-slide port – you push the sliding cover to one side to expose the fill hole, top it up, and slide it closed again. There is no silicone bung to lose and no need to remove the tank from the device. The airflow control ring sits at the top of the tank and adjusts continuously, giving you a smooth transition between a tight MTL draw and a fully open DTL draw. Adjusting the airflow in combination with coil choice is how you dial in the vaping style you want – more on that in the AF Coil section below. The 2ml capacity is TPD-compliant for the UK market.

AF Coils

The Rover Plus ships with a 0.4Ω and a 0.6Ω AF mesh coil. A third option, the 1.0Ω, is available separately. All three are mesh-build Kanthal coils that press-fit into the base of the AF tank. Here is how each variant performs.

  • 0.4Ω AF Mesh Coil, 20-28W, DTL. The highest-output option in the range. At 20-28W with the airflow fully or mostly open, this coil produces the most vapour and the warmest, densest draw. It suits high-VG e-liquids of 70% VG or above – thinner 50/50 e-liquids can be used but flavour and vapour production are better matched to shortfills or dedicated high-VG freebase at low nicotine strength (3mg or below). This is the coil in the box for vapers who want sub-ohm output without external batteries.
  • 0.6Ω AF Mesh Coil, 15-18W, RDTL. A mid-range option that bridges the gap between DTL clouds and a more restricted draw. At 15-18W with the airflow partially closed, you get a satisfying RDTL vape with good flavour and a moderate amount of vapour. Most vapers find this coil comfortable at 16 or 17W as a daily driver. High-VG e-liquids of 70% VG or above work well here; a 60% VG shortfill is also viable. This coil is also in the box.
  • 1.0Ω AF Mesh Coil, 12-15W, MTL. Available separately from the Rover Plus kit. This is the MTL option – with the airflow ring mostly or fully closed, it delivers a tight, mouth-to-lung draw that most closely matches the feel of smoking. At 12-15W it works well with 50/50 freebase e-liquids or nicotine salts, and it is the correct coil to choose if you are transitioning from smoking or primarily vape MTL. Nicotine salt strengths of 10-20mg are a good starting point with this coil.
